2022 Nfl Mock Draft Jets One of the biggest needs Douglas has to address this offseason is cornerback. Stingley Jr. has lockdown potential and although his injury history might be a valid cause for concern, his natural ability and high ceiling will likely be too tempting to pass up. In fact, he would be an even better value pick for the Jets at No. 7 than No. 4, which is where most mock drafts have New York selecting him. Stingley Jr. was a key component of LSU's national championship run in 2019 and is about as pro-ready as any cornerback in this year's draft class. Bob Donnan-USA TODAY Sports The 2021 NFL season is drawing to a close and that means it's time for our latest 2022 NFL mock draft.
With some of the top quarterbacks in college football struggling, the door opens for defensive players to dominate the draft board. He has the frame to line up as a defensive end in a four-down front and would likely be a first-round pick in a draft class that was not littered with elite pass rushers. The Jets would be lucky to get their hands on Enagbare at this point in the second round. Kyle Hamilton might be the pound-for-pound best football player in college football.
His ability to play sideline to sideline against the pass and also being a formidable run defender makes him the best safety prospect coming out of college football in the past decade. The Jets take Hamilton with this pick and continue to add talented pieces to their defense. The Lions add two of Michigan's top defensive players in this mock draft. Hill is a promising talent coming off a strong season, helping lead the Wolverines to a successful year.
He can provide great versatility to the Lions' defensive backfield. Hill can play slot corner or either safety position in the secondary. Hutchinson and Hill would be quite a first-round for the Lions.
Marc Lebryk-USA TODAY SportsGeorge Karlaftis doesn't have the stats of an elite pass rush, recording just 4.5 sacks in 2021. But at 6-foot-4, a player who earned a spot onBruce Feldman's 2021 college football freaks listand draws immense praise for his work ethic, Karlaftis can be a top-5 pick. He is the edge rusher Robert Saleh's defense is missing. Georgia boasts arguably the best defense in college football. The Jets would be wise to target one of their best players on that side of the ball and Dean fills a need at linebacker.
He just posted a career-high 8.5 tackles for loss as a junior and is an athletic inside linebacker who is adept at making plays from sideline to sideline. Mosley, who is more of a thumper, as a new-age inside linebacker that plays well in space. The New York Jets have gone through a roster overhaul since Joe Douglas took over as general manager after the 2019 NFL draft.
Safety, Marcus Maye, is the longest-tenured player and is the only player currently left on the roster from the 2017 season. For a team that has not made the playoffs since 2010 and had to endure two disastrous years in the Adam Gase era, the team finally appears to be headed in the right direction. This past offseason the Jets had a couple of big free-agent signings, including receiver Corey Davis and edge rusher Carl Lawson, and they had 10 draft picks including 2 first-rounders. Karlaftis -- who was born in Athens, Greece -- is the "Greek Freak" of college football. The 6-foot-4, 275-pound Boilermaker showed a lot of promise as an underclassman and is now maximizing his full potential as a true junior, as evidenced by his 90.1 pass-rush grade this season. Drake London dominated at the catch point this year, leading the nation in contested catches , per Pro Football Focus.
The Dolphins are lucky to land him our NFL mock draft to team up with 2021 first-round pick Jaylen Waddle. There aren't many glaring holes on Arizona's roster, but neither J.J. Watt nor Chandler Jones is getting any younger and the Cardinals will want to keep attacking opposing offenses. Jackson is a perfect hybrid edge rusher who can play linebacker or defensive end, depending on need.
He has 12.5 career sacks and 25.0 tackles for loss with the Trojans, and can learn from some of the best in the business. Thibodeaux stands out as one of the most talented edge rushers to play college football in recent years. He is a lengthy, freakishly athletic, high-motored, diverse pass-rusher whose sky-high ceiling projects him as arguably the best pure prospect in the 2022 draft. The first prospect the Jets could consider is the incoming junior right tackle for the Alabama Crimson Tide, Evan Neal. Neal is a towering tackle standing at 6'7 and 360 pounds, and he can easily overpower most college defensive linemen.
What is impressive about Neal is not just his size and power, but also the unique blend of athleticism and footwork he has to go with that size. He has a superstar pass block ceiling with that combination of length and athleticism, but he also has the size and power to be a high-end-run blocker. He does need to work on his technique, but mock drafts reflect his potential by having him usually as the first tackle off the board in next year's draft. Another assumption is theneeds at right tackle and wide receiver will have been settled. Finally, the focus of free agency will be on offense to get things up to par quickly but the draft will be defense heavy for head coach Robert Saleh. Although the Steelers are talked about as a quarterback-needy team, there are many other positions that could be in play as well.
The Steelers do have some money to work with in free agency, but the offensive line is in shambles, the cupboard at cornerback is looking bare, and the defensive line is not getting any younger. The Steelers also have to decide on whether Terrell Edmunds, JuJu Smith-Schuster, and James Washington are worth bringing back. That puts wide receiver and safety on the list of potential needs as well. With one week left in the 2021 regular season, the 2022 draft order is close to official.
It could be interesting if any potential surprises this weekend drastically change picks towards the top. After the regular season, it will be fun to see which prospects in the class will see their stock go up. The closer we get to draft day, the more I attempt to match what teams will actually do with their draft picks as opposed to what I believe they should do. Burks is a big, 6-foot-3 playmaking wideout who had a breakout year with the Razorbacks. He notched 67 catches for 1,123 yards and 11 TD this year, including 179 yards and two touchdowns against Alabama. He had TD catches of 91, 85, 66, and 52 yards this season, plus a 49-yard rushing TD.
Williams could go much higher than this, but just based on team needs inside the top ten, he may drop a few spots. With Calvin Ridley away from football indefinitely, it is vital that the Falcons add a premier talent at wide receiver. Williams was the most dangerous deep threat in the country this season, averaging over 20 yards per reception. I thought about mocking Kenny Pickett here, but the value of Williams is just too good to pass up.
Now, Staley is the head coach of the Los Angeles Chargers with the opportunity to select a similar talent to Floyd in this 2022 projection. Oklahoma's Nik Bonitto is the nation's best returning pass-rusher. According to Pro Football Focus, Bonitto led major college football last season in pass-rush grade (93.6), pass-rush win rate and pressure rate generated (25.7 percent). Wilson is a gifted wide receiver prospect who would give the Browns a spark in the passing game. He would work well alongside other young wide receivers, Donovan Peoples-Jones and Anthony Schwartz.
With the football in his hands, he is very dynamic and elusive in space. Williams would be an exciting addition for the Jets, who will likely be looking to add a wide receiver. Williams has been arguably the best wide receiver in all of college football this year. He also provides a solid frame, reliable hands, and can win in numerous ways aside from his speed. Pairing Williams up with Elijah Moore for Zach Wilson would give the Jets a fun, young offense. Karlaftis and Williams would be a great haul early on for the Jets.
Thibodeaux is the best player in the class and would help the Jaguars improve on defense. Jacksonville desperately needs an elite talent like Thibodeaux. He provides all the traits that one could ask for in an edge pass rusher.
As a prospect, he is young and still has the potential to continue to get even better. John Reed-USA TODAY SportsNew England's pass defense has just been dominant this season. Heading into Week 18, opposing quarterbacks have thrown 20 touchdowns against 23 interceptions against this unit.
Jackson is slated to become a free agent and might not return next season. Ro Football Focus' highest-rated cornerback in coverage this season, Roger McCreary faced the best wide receivers in the SEC and contained them better than anyone. Matt Cashore-USA TODAY SportsRobert Saleh's defense needs a leader in the secondary who can clean up mistakes and make plays.
The Notre Dame safety is one of the rare players at his position who will be drafted with a top-5 pick. Pair him with an edge rusher and passing against New York will actually become challenging. Cleveland has the best defensive end pairing in the NFL, but the interior of the line needs work. He put up 8.5 sacks, 12.5 tackles for loss, two passes defensed, and a forced fumble in 11 games this year with Texas A&M while also setting a career-high in tackles with 58.
He played all over the line for A&M, and while his pass-rush ability needs a little work, all the tools are there for him to become a truly special player. Washington looks at the QB landscape and decides to ride with Taylor Heinicke instead of forcing a pick in a lesser QB crop. Instead the Football Team opts for at 6-foot-4, 219 pound safety who can change their defense. Hamilton seems like the big-bodied, ballhawk-y type of playmaker you can build a secondary around, not just another piece in the unit. In 31 career games with the Fighting Irish he notched eight interceptions, 16 passes defended, and 7.5 tackles for loss. The other no-doubt elite defensive end in this draft, Hutchinson could go No. 1 overall if Jacksonville has different draft board evaluations.
As it stands, the Texans roll with Davis Mills at QB and add a pass rusher with T.J. Watt's hyper-athletic edge rush play style and production (14.0 sacks, 16.5 TFL, 2 forced fumbles) that will make any defensive coordinator's eyes water. We've had the Browns targeting a wideout in recent drafts but this is the first time they've had Wilson fall to them.
Wilson is one of the the most dynamic players in college football and he'll give Baker Mayfield another downfield option now that Odell Beckham Jr. is in L.A." Donovan Peoples-Jones has emerged as a legitimate receiving threat, but he and Jarvis Landry are the only two notable receivers on the roster. London was the best receiver in college football when healthy this season, displaying his 6'5" frame on 50/50 balls deep down the field. He would be a perfect fit for what Cleveland needs on the perimeter. Arkansas' Treylon Burks is a big and physical wide receiver.
The 6'3", 225-pounder caught 51 passes for 820 yards and seven touchdowns in nine games last season. No collegiate player is better at providing a target for his quarterback. Addressing the offensive line does not make sense given what is available for the Titans here. Defensively, they have a ton of talent and would address their secondary with tremendous value at this point in Brisker. The Pittsburgh, PA native had a productive season this year.
He has good size that he will use to his advantage, and has also proven the ability to make plays on the football. The Buccaneers have had a ton of players fill-in at cornerback this season and will probably need to replace Carlton Davis in the offseason. Over the last two years, McCreary has been very productive making plays on the football in coverage. He meets the length threshold to be efficient on the outside. The Buccaneers would have to be happy with the value here. The Eagles add one of the more exciting talents in the draft.
He can play physical in coverage, at the line of scrimmage, and will make tough tackles. The speed Gardner possesses will be good enough for him in the NFL. Over his three years at Cincinnati, he has been consistently productive.
Adding Gardner with Darius Slay and Avonte Maddox would give the Eagles a top-level cornerback trio. After throwing 4 picks against the Packers in the Week 16 loss, Browns' fans are beginning to entertain moving on from Baker Mayfield. It wasn't too long ago when fans could only dream about a competitive football team that is just a player or two away from not just becoming a playoff hopeful, but becoming a Super Bowl Contender. The Broncos are talented enough to still be in the playoff picture right now, which means they would be doing this team a disservice by not improving on their quarterback situation in the offseason. Denver chose to be patient last year, but I find it hard to believe they can hold their water for a second-straight draft. If for any reason they do, I'd love to see an edge rusher like Ojabo available.
With Von Miller gone, and Bradley Chubb's injury history, finding someone that can routinely pressure Patrick Mahomes and Justin Herbert will be essential. In my opinion, there is no prospect in the 2022 draft class that is worthy of the #1 overall pick. This leaves the Jags really with a choice between Edge defender Aidan Hutchinson, who would become a fan favorite with his non-stop motor and JJ Watt level effort. And Evan Neal, a 6'7", 360 lb colossus of an offensive tackle who will immediately upgrade the offensive line by replacing expensive Cam Robinson, an average LT playing under a franchise tag this year.
Ojabo is the defensive prospect who has helped himself most this season, as he has 10 sacks and four forced fumbles in 10 games. It's just a one-year sample for the third-year sophomore, but he has starred on the other side of Aidan Hutchinson. Ojabo, a former high school teammate of 2021 first-rounder Odafe Oweh, is the exact type of prospect the Jets should covet to place alongside a healthy Carl Lawson in 2022. The Jets can fill both of their biggest need positions -- corner and edge -- with their two top-10 picks. Williams has proved he can be a lot more than a route-running technician while playing with Heisman-winning young passer Bryce Young. Rob Kinnan-USA TODAY SportsA consensus top-three pick in 2022 NFL mock drafts before the season, Sam Howell didn't play up to expectations this year.
But in a season without all of his top offensive weapons that went to the NFL, Howell still scored 34 total touchdowns with 2,851 passing yards and 825 rushing yards. Detroit finds a fure heir-apparent to Jared Goff with one of the picks acquired in the Matthew Stafford trade. Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY SportsThe Atlanta Falcons near the bottom of the NFL in pressures and sacks, desperately needing pass rushers. After playing only one game in 2020, Ojabo erupted for an 11-sack season this year with five forced fumbles. This could just be a hint of what he is able to accomplish as this athlete becomes an even better football player.
Rob Kinnan-USA TODAY SportsThe Carolina Panthers are in a similar position to another team in our 2022 NFL mock draft. Like the Denver Broncos, Carolina's best move is to acquire a quarterback via trade. If the Panthers can keep their first-round pick, left tackle is the priority and Ekwonu offers excellent upside at the position with the right coaching. Jacksonville could go any number of directions with this first pick -- top-tier D-line talent?
